Here’s another flavorful recipe that tastes like you’ve been cooking all day, but you havent!
I created this spaghetti sauce when I realized how much sugar was in the store-bought jarred sauces. I also saw how much money I could save by making my own sauce. It only takes a few ingredients, most of which you usually already have in the cupboard.
My family loves this recipe and is always excited when I say I’m making homemade sauce instead of jarred. They think it’s pretty special and must take me hours to make. It’s really not difficult to develop the deep flavors if you use enough spice and beef broth. I like to add a little spice to my sauce and through in a pinch of red chili flakes.
This recipe can be made on a weeknight. Add a tossed salad and some garlic bread and you have a well-balanced meal. We serve our sauce on top the noodles, but that might just be a Midwest thing!
Beef – I use ground round for my sauce, but any ground meat will work
Tomato sauce – if you like chunky sauce, reduce the amount of sauce and add some diced tomatoes
Red Pepper Flakes – this can be omitted if you don’t want a spicier spaghetti sauce
The basics….
- Cook minced garlic in olive oil until fragrant
- Add ground beef and spices to pot to let the spices heat up and bloom
- Cook the tomato paste down before adding any liquid to the pot
- After adding the broth and tomato sauce, let the sauce simmer to thicken
