Cast Iron Skillet Apple Cider Pie Filling

Equipment

  • 1 13.25 inch cast iron skillet
  • 1 apple corer

Ingredients

  • 7-9 medium apples Granny Smith & Honeycrisp
  • ½ lemon juiced
  • ¾ cup dark brown sugar
  • tsp cinnamon
  • ¾ cup apple cider
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 tbsp butter, salted
  • 2 tbsp apple cider
  • 2 tbsp corn starch

Instructions

  • Peel, core, and dice 7-9 apples
  • Combine diced apples, sugar, cinnamon, cider, and lemon juice in a cast iron skillet
  • Heat on medium-high heat and stir occasionally. Leave on heat for 7-9 minutes or until apples are fork tender
  • While apples are cooking, make slurry with 2 tbsp apple cider and 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • Stir slurry into apple mixture until thickened
  • Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and butter
